I'll read the Wolcott book by this weekend and possibly review it later.

Kellow's book reminds me how much I remain as smitten by Kael's writings as ever. She's the only critic whose work I have studied as intently as that of Joyce, say, or David Foster Wallace, or Kafka. The Film Doctor https://www.blogger.com/profile/03073505923746994988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7704583061723470804.post-16051805112538180462012-04-11T08:48:28.857-04:002012-04-11T08:48:28.857-04:00Some folks found it depressing, or, worse, a "...Some folks found it depressing, or, worse, a "cautionary tale." (Cautionary about what?) Me not quite so much, but I did feel the tone was a bit heavy-weather at times. Wolcott's version of events is livelier and funnier, if possibly colored by nostalgia: he and PK had a falling out late in her life, after his piece outing the "Paulettes."Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01450775188328918558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7704583061723470804.post-7714730497126287252012-04-10T13:20:25.063-04:002012-04-10T13:20:25.063-04:00Thanks for the tip. I thought that she naturally declined after awhile, and Kellow dutifully records what happened. I'm still pleased that the book was written at all, and Kellow made it so engaging. The Film Doctor https://www.blogger.com/profile/03073505923746994988noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7704583061723470804.post-33011400142452335792012-04-09T09:02:12.752-04:002012-04-09T09:02:12.752-04:00That's the stuff. It doesn't deal with PK exclusively, but it puts the bounce and fun back into her persona, which I think the Kellow bio bleeds a little too dry in order to oversell the "tragic downfall" theme (which is debatable).Craighttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01450775188328918558noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7704583061723470804.post-76656148625444914192012-04-09T07:47:30.074-04:002012-04-09T07:47:30.074-04:00Did she?
